Always Think About Grout with a New Tile Installation

Grout should never be an afterthought. Sure, it may be more fun to choose what tiles you want on your bathroom wall or kitchen floor, but the grout brings it all together. Also, without the grout, your tile won’t stay in place. Lastly, thinking about grout is important, because its appearance and color can totally change the look of your tile and room.

If you’ve just had new tile installed in your home, it is necessary to seal your tile surfaces. You will have to wait until the grout has time to cure, but once the grout is completely dried, use a grout sealer to protect it.  If you happen to not like the grout color you chose, you can easily change it with a grout color sealer, as well. When you seal your tile installation right away, your grout will be protected from absorbing dirt and grease right off the bat!

Grout Shield has two different sealers you can use on your newly installed tile including:

Grout Shield Clear Sealer – This clear-colored sealer protects newly laid tile and grout from becoming stained, dirty, and discolored. This is good to use if you currently like the color of your grout.

Grout Shield Color Sealer – This penetrating sealer revitalizes and restores color to the grout. This sealer colors and seals in one product. This is good to use if you want to change the color of your grout.

Why wouldn’t you seal your grout right away? If you just spent all that time and money on new tile work, you might as well protect it! When grout isn’t sealed, it absorbs everything that comes in contact with it. Over time, the grout will look aged and dirty. You don’t want grout that looks dirty, or grout that is full of mold and mildew. If your grout absorbs water, it can cause the tile and grout to crack and break.  When you use a sealer, you’re keeping your tile and grout safe and extending their life and vibrancy.

Cement-based grout needs to be sealed because it’s porous, but epoxy grout doesn’t need a seal, because it has no pores.  Certain tiles are porous, as well, and it’s in your best interest to protect them as soon as you get them installedStone, slate, granite and marble needs to be sealed. Grout Shield has the following seal for tiles:

Grout Shield Enhancer Seal –  Our enhancer seal is used for ceramic, slate, or Mexican tile floor to make the tiles look vibrant and new again.
